It all started with a Facebook group for women, which currently has over 60,000 members. Now the Egg community has bridged the gap between digital and physical retail spaces by opening their first bricks and mortar location in the heart of Edinburgh’s bustling city centre at 51 George Street.

Housed in the expansive 7,000 sq ft building, you’ll find female-led Scottish businesses with sustainability at their core. This includes brands such as The Tartan Blanket Co.; florist Fruit Salad Flowers; slow fashion label Beira; artist diedododa; and Rare Birds Books, who were previously featured in the September 2021 issue of ALHAUS magazine

In addition to the retail space, there’s also a coffee shop run by Steampunk Coffee, as well as an events space on a mezzanine level.

Egg was born after Kylie Reid moved from Glasgow to Edinburgh in 2014. As a new mum in a new city looking to network and make some friends, she couldn’t find the Edinburgh alternative to already established Facebook groups in Glasgow, where women could connect and support each other. So she set up her own.

In 2017 Kylie left her job in sales to start Edinburgh Gossip Girls as a full-time business. “The name was changed to Egg a few years later as we moved into other Scottish cities,” Kylie confirms. Since then the team has grown to include three more staff members and she thanks her lucky stars every day that she made that leap.

“The physical extension of Egg, the space where we bring together our community, where we collaborate and celebrate, that's egg & co.”

Kylie continues, “egg & co has always been the dream and I’m so grateful to have been given this opportunity to test the concept. We're only three weeks in but I know already that egg & co will be around for a long time. The feedback has been incredible and we have been warmly welcomed by our neighbours. And we’re fully booked for March and April, which is no mean feat given the size of the space. Good news for the High Street at long last.”

With Edinburgh first and more cities to come, we can’t wait to see what the team at Egg do next.
